Beschrijving van het project
The Rail Baltica project is an 875-km-long greenfield project which will connect three European Union Member States, being Estonia (217 km), Latvia (269 km) and Lithuania (389 km).
Several regional stations and stops will be constructed and will be designed to be accessible to all types of passengers. The line will also feature more than 140 different railway structures, with railway bridges over river, railway viaducts over road, railway viaducts over land, railway structure over pedestrian/cyclist crossing, and so forth. Two tunnels (“Riga Railway Central Station to Riga Airport” – 2 km and “Kaunas tunnel” – 1.7 km) are planned to be bored.
The line has been designed to provide 249 km/h passenger service and 120 km/h freight service, to form the central part of the Baltic Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). Traffic management will be supported by ERTMS L2 Baseline 3 (i.e. ETCS L2 + GSM-R or FRMCS), and the line will be powered by a 2×25 kV – 50 Hz overhead contact line.
Omvang van het werk
In this context CERTIFER, along with our partner Network Certification Body (NCB), is involved as a Notified Body (NoBo) to check for the project’s compliance with the following Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSIs): Infrastructure (INF) / Persons with disabilities and Reduced Mobility (PRM) / Energy / Control-Command & Signalling (ERTMS L2 Baseline 3) / Safety in Railway Tunnels (SRT). In addition to this NoBo service, an Assessment Body (AsBo) service focused on one section of the line (Sveicarinja-Zeimiai) and on one bridge (Bridge over Neris River) was also contracted to check for the suitability of their design as per safety requirements detailed in EU Regulation N°402/2013.
