FRANCE: ALSTOM'S AGV NG HIGH SPEED TRAIN ASSESSMENT
Customer
ALSTOM TRANSPORT
Subsystem
Duration of the project
2009-2017
Project's description
The AGV is the first very high-speed train of the Avelia range to be entirely designed by ALSTOM for an
international market while fully taking into account environmental concerns.
This AGV can operate at speed of up to 360km/h and is commissioned on the high-speed lines of the European
network.
Several new aspects have to be taken into account in this subsystem, such as sleepers in composite material, the
introduction of a new traction function with permanent magnet motors or the introduction of the new Train
Control Monitoring System (TCMS).
The AGV is a also new type of Rolling Stock with a different diagram from existing High-Speed Train.
Passive safety also has innovative aspects.

Scope of work
In this project, CERTIFER worked closely with ALSTOM, from the detailed design stage to the commissioning of the train by operating as the Notified Body and Designated Body.
Notified Body (NoBo) Mission
The mission consisted in assessing all characteristics coming from the Technical Specifications for Interoperability
(TSI) as stipulated in the 96/48 directive on the interoperability of the trans-European high- speed rail system ; and
detailed in the relevant TSIs: Rolling Stock (RST), Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM), Noise, Control Command
and Signalling (CCS) and Tunnels.
The French Designated Body (OQA)
- Assessment of the Preliminary Safety Case for the AGV 11 car.
- Assessment of the Safety Case.
- Assessment of the hazards identified in the Preliminary Hazard Analysis included in the Preliminary Safety Case according to the French decree 2006-1279, and the solutions to cover those risks on innovating aspects.
CERTIFER’s scope consisted in assessing the conformity of the train through design verification, manufacturing audits
and test witnesses.
