Project's description
Lines 1 and 5 of the Brussels metro are subject to a modernization project and an increase of their capacity as part of the Brussels Metro Modernization Program (PMM). Line 1, 12.5 km long, includes stations from Stockel to Gare de l’Ouest, and line 5, 17.3 km long, includes stations from Hermann-Debroux to Erasme. These two lines have a common section of about 6 km between the stations of Merode and Gare de l’Ouest. These lines are currently operated with M6 and Mx trains in KCV mode.
The modernization project includes the following: installation of a new signalling, purchase of new “M7” type trainsets, installation of PSD, creation of a new depot and the refurbishment of the existing depot. In the final stage, this modernization program will provide for the operation of vehicles in fully automatic and driverless driving mode (GoA 4).
The Signalling System includes the following equipment: IXL, ATS – Automatic Train Supervision, CBTC (CC, TOD, ZC, FTM, Balogh TAG), Radio Transmission System, IC-IV System (Client interaction, Passenger Information). The Generic Application CBTC used for the project is already certified. The commissioning is planned in 4 phases from 2020 to 2022.
Scope of work
In this context, CERTIFER is involved as the Independent Safety Assessor for the Specific Application of CBTC to assess its compliance with CENELEC standards.
